The evolution of the pinky ring
Posted by Silver Forte on Mar 9th 2018
Rings have so many cultural and symbolic iterations throughout the world, and are often seen as one of the most important accessories a person can wear. But this is especially true in men.
Since males are
less likely to adorn rings for purely aesthetic purposes (most men only
wear engagement/wedding rings), the significance of what ring is worn
on which finger is pertinent.
It’s typically believed that a man
wears a ring as a statement. The wedding ring communicates that ‘I’m
married’. Some rings indicate solidarity. Others may be linked to good
fortune, hard work, almost with the connotations a tattoo may bring.
Yet
it is the ring of the pinky finger that perhaps provides the most
interesting evolution. Long associated with organized crime, the pinky
ring has come to represent brotherhood in a similar, if tamer, manner.
It’s distinction from the rest of the hand gives it the ideal location
for maximum wow factor, and it’s generally the most comfortable finger
to wear a ring on for the same reasons.
Perhaps the pinky finger is
missing a ring on your hand? Whether for fashion or function, it is an
area with enormous potential to make a statement.
